Clay
Any soil that dries hard and isn’t easily crumbled can be used for a basic lump of clay. Clay can be formed to make weights, puppet heads etc.
The soil that dries with the largest cracks is best. The soil must be ground up and mixed with a little water. Some fibres, from paper, hair or plants, can be added for extra strength. Leave it to dry slowly. Only better quality, cleaned clay can be fired in an oven.
